This thesis studies the effects of meeting settings and teamwork leadership on the teamwork outcomes and groupthink symptoms. The sample include 20 students in a graduate-level course of Management Decision at National Taiwan University of Science and Technology in Taiwan. The twenty students were randomly assigned into four groups: (1) face-to-face meeting with the teacher as the team leader (FTF x LDT), (2) face-to-face meeting without the teacher (FTF x SMT), (3) computer mediated meeting with the teacher as a team leader (CMSS x LDT), and (4) computer mediated meeting without the teacher (CMSS x SMT). Each group was asked to make an outsourcing decision, and to finish a questionnaire regarding the research variables. The results reveal that, with SMT leadership, meeting settings (FTF vs. CMSS) would affect groupthink symptoms and perceived group decision outcome. However, the influence does not exist while the group is led in LDT. The findings of the thesis also indicated that the strong leader''s promotion (LDT vs. SMT) in LDT would not affect the groupthink symptoms. This finding may be explained by assuming that when group members are all well educated as in this thesis, Janis''causal model of groupthink symptoms may need to be reconsidered.
