A feature of the scheme is that it provides high utilization of fault-free nodes by allowing fault rings and fault chains that are associated with faulty regions to overlap. In our routing algorithm, a message assumes one of three message types at any time, and its type may change during routing. Each message type follows its own routing algorithm. We also make use of the location information of the nodes on the fault rings and fault chains. The information includes the coordinate of the reference node and the position of the node on the fault rings and fault chains. Only the nodes on fault rings and fault chains need to maintain the small routing information.By enforcing a set of rules on traveling directions on fault rings and fault chains, the algorithm is guaranteed to be deadlock-free without using virtual channels.
