Summary: | 碩士 === 國立臺灣大學 === 護理學系研究所 === 86 === The major purpose of this study was to investigate the work stress and he
alth among managers, and to examine the relationship between work stress and h
ealth. The subjects of this study were the managers of non-shopfloor from one d
ivision in a private company. The survey instrument were the Chinese OSI-2, in
cluding "Stressor scale", "Physical health scale" and "Mental health scale", a
nd a questionnaire on personal demographic characteristics. The data were an
alyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, one way ANOVA, Pearson product-momen
t correlation and stepwise multiple regression. The major results of this
study were as follows: 1.The overall level of the work stress among managers
was moderate. Managers reported that "personal responsibility" was the major
stressor, followed by "workload","organizational climate", "relatioships", "ha
ssles", "recognition", "home/work balance" , and finally "managerial role" as
the least stressful. The physical and mental health of managers was at middle
level.2.The stress from "relationships" was significantly related to manageria
l level of managers. The amount of stress derived from "home/work balance "and
"recognition" was significantly related to age, tenure and managerial level of
managers.Stress from the "organizational climate" was
significantly related to ag
e and managerial levele of managers.3.The significant predictor of stress from
"relationships"and "organizational climate" was middle managers. When managers
were middle managers, they had more stress from relationships and organizatio
nal climate. Tenure was a significant predictor of stress from the " home/work
balance". When the tenure of managers was shorter, the stress from home/work ba
lance was greater. The prediction of stress from "recognition" was negatively c
orrelated with age. Younger managers experienced higher levels of stress from r
ecognition. 4.There was a significant negative relationship between work stress
and health among managers. When managers had more work stress, their physical
and mental health declined. 5.The significant predictors of "overall physical
health" were stress from "organizational climate"and "managerial role". When
managers experienced more stress from the organizational climate and managerial
role, their overall physical health became worse. "Overall mental health" was
significantly predicted by stress from "hassles" and "organizational climate".
When managers had more stress from hassles and organizational climate, thei
r overall mental health tended to decline. Based on the results of this st
udy, several recommendations were submitted with regard to stress management p
rograms and further researches. Key words: work stress, physical and menta
l health, manager.
