The data bank f or air quality on hourly basis in January to September in 1996 was provided by Taipei Environmental Protection Bureau. Those data were collected by air qual ity monitoring stations including six general air quality monitoring stations, Sung Shan, Tachih, Gu Tin, Nan Kang, Nei Hu, Mu Cha and two traffic exhaust m onitoring stations, Chung North, Cheng Te. The data about ambient temperature in Taipei city, recorded by the Central Weather Bureau Taiwan, was also includ ed in this study. Upon the data, the hourly data bass in the day with the high est ozone concentration each month in every monitoring station was selected an d analyzed. The results indicated that: the diurnal trend of ozone could be divided into three patterns: solar type, lunar type and combined type. The sol ar type owns an appearant peak with the daily highest concentration occurring in noon and the peak is usually sharper than those of two other types. The lun ar type has an appearant peak starting at night and reaching summit at the ear ly morning. Its lasting period is longer, but the concentration is relatively lower. The combined type designates there is not an appearant peak during day annd night. When the peak of ozone occurred, the concentration of ozone has an opposite trend to concentration of NOx. The initial and maximum ozone concent rations on a peak and their corresponding initial and minimum concentrations o f NOx respectively, did not significantly correlated with ambient temperature .Furthermore, the rate constant, k calculated on basis of pseudo-first order r eaction did not demonstrate strong correlation between ozone and NOx in solar type. (R2=0.0196) But the correlation of k value between ozone and NOx in luna r type is relatively high. (R2=0.5035) In regard to the quotient of risk in te rms of the maximum ozone concentration relative to 120 ppm, the one-hour stand ard of air quality, 10% of the solar type were over one, but none of the lunar type was greater than 1.
