Finally, many of these upland watersheds have become the main source areas of non-point source pollution (NPSP). The main purpose of this research is to develop a NPSP Potential Index System (PPI system) of watersheds in Taiwan. We could use a dimensionless index calcu The main contents of constructing the PPI system for NPSP of watershed is as follows: 1.To decide proper NPSP components and their weights as indictors 2.To construct the NPSP Pollution Potential Ranking Model (PPRM) 3.To construct the PPI system for NPSP by the PPRM 4.To divide watersheds into different levels by the PPI The developed PPRM and PPI system could be applied to watershed management as a planning tool for NPSP. The function for identification of the heavily polluted areas helps decision- makers to set the priority of remediation, and to evaluate the effects of Best Management Practices (BMPs). With the system, we could prevent water quality deterioration and avoid financial wastes caused by bad decision making.
