In order to realize how two objects can b e assembled, in this study, we first introduce the constraint matrix to repres ent the freedom and constraint conditions of any two objects in contact, and l ater on it is used as a tool for synthesizing fastening pairs. Next, the possi ble assembly directions and the ways to increase constraint are discussed in o rder to develop a complete conceptual design method for fastening object. Then , procedure for planning assembly introduced which will help generate design c oncepts effectively.
