usually assumed that the open-loop system be stable or neutrally stable.
In this thesis, two new control designs are proposed in Chapters 2 and 3
for an open-loop unstable system under a stabilizability condition, which
can be checked by off-line computer simulations in advance of the control
operation. In Chapter 4, these two new control designs are applied to the
multi-input system. Finally, in Chapter 5, the new control is extended to
a time-varying bilinear system. These new designs result in a nonlinear
control law that stabilizes the bilinear system not only globally but also
exponentially.
