Among sixteen enzymes surveyed, twenty-seven gene loci were resolved. The genetic variations among samples of Scomber australasicus are very low with the Nei''s genetic distance of smaller than 0.002. On the contrary Scomber japonicus samples show higher genetic variations than that of S. australasicus. The morphoremetric data usin PCA analysis reveals that there is no statistical differences among samples in Scomber australasicus and S. japonicus. Conclusively, Scomber australasicus and S. japonicus are considered to be two different species and each species has only one population.
