A number of family structure that may influence students'' acad emic achievement were investigated,andpital,as well asresource dilu tion.Valid samples of the study were 527 6th graders of Taitung County,sele cted throughstratified random cluster sampling.Data were collected wi th questionnaires and achievement tests of Chinese andMathematics dev elopedby the researMajorfindings ofthe study are summarizebelow :1. Measured by the achievement tests of this study,theaverage acad emic achievementof aboriginalstudents in elementary school is signifi cantly lower than thatof han students. Nevertheless,after controlling family structure2.Furthermore,most of background factors(e.g.,family s tructure) influence to academic achievement becomes almost insignificant aftercontrolling the intervening variables.
