The increased import capacity created Taiwan as the largest tuna import source into Japanese market since 1989. Recent years, the growth of market share from Taiwanese source were stagnant. On the contrary, the market share of the Rest-Of-World (ROW) source had increased significantly. It becomes necessary for Taiwan to understand more about Japanese tuna import demand for the future possible expansion in the Japanese market. The almost ideal demand system(AIDS) and the source differentiated AIDS (RSDAIDS) model are specified for the estimation of Japanese Tuna import demand structure by different species and by major countries of origin. The 1976-1996 annual data of domestic landing and import tuna of 6 tuna products associated with 4 important sources were used. Research results have shown the Japanese preference on fresh tuna and inelastic demand for major frozen tuna. Taiwan'' focus on frozen tuna maybe disadvantageous to future market expansion. From source differentiation point of view, oligopoly Japanese tuna import firms control import allocation significantly. Taiwan adopted coordination strategies and resulted in large market share. However, the conservation on marine resources and the Japanese requests on Taiwan''s export self restraint may have pushed Taiwan'' firms to different source countries as special forms of internationalization. Thus, the future international fishery cooperation for Taiwan including the creation of fine image on international fisheries resource conservation have become more important that ever. 黃琮琪 1998 學位論文 ; thesis 77 zh-TW
