PMO cells were found to be capable of releasing IL-2-like molecules at 4 hrs after plating by competitive ELISA assay. PMO cells treated with Con A or LPS for 12 hr gave 50% increase in amount of the IL-2-like molecules in culture supernatant. IL-2-like molecules were also found in the presence Oka organ culture. Furthermore, the IL-2-activity of prawn IL-2-like molecule was demonstrated by HT-2 cell (IL-2 responsive cell line) proliferating assay. Western blot analysis of the PMO cell lysate with goat polyclonal antibodies against murine recombinant IL-2 showed peptides estimated to be 55, 40 kDa and 17kDa in molecular mass, while p55 and p40 were found in Oka homogenate.
