The fundamental principles and practical guidelines for designing such a transducer are studied, and the techniques of fabrication and measurement are also investigated. Following procedures are carried out throughout the study: (1) investigation of the fundamental theories, (2) design and computation of various transducer parameters, (3) analysis and derivation of equivalent circuit, (4) fabrication and measurement of the transducer. Longitudinally polarized piezoelectric ceramic cylinders have been widely used in ultrasonic transducers. The vibration characteristicsare studied, and the resonance frequency equation is also derived. Based onelectromechanical analogy theory, equivalent circuit of the transducer is developed by using the solution of wave equation and the piezoelectric equations. The frequency responses of piezoelectric ceramic and transducer array can be obtained by simulating the equivalent circuit in PSPICE. A set of transducer array is fabricated to carry out prototype test.
