The wear mechanism in the silver-tungsten alloy contacts can be classified into the bridge and the metallic phase arc wears. The erosion of contact surfaces for the bridge wear is different from that of the metallic phase arc wear, but the particle number for both two wears increases with increasing supply current. According to the degree of mass transfer, the erosion-mode diagram for the silver-tungsten alloy contacts is established to provide the information of erosion mechanism. On the other hand, the analysis results of erosion particle characteristics can be used to the reference of choosing and designing make/break contacts.
