The analytical system is fully computerized and is able to monitor the concentration of the pesticide residues in an assay cycle of 180 s including 30 s incubation time when the flow is stopped. The optimal operation conditions such as enzyme, substrate, pH, flow rate and stopping time were studied. The experimental set-up gave good reproducibility with the linear ranges for paraoxon (1-70 ppb), dichlorovos (20-70 ppb), and carbofuran (2-70 ppb). The detection limit of paraoxon, dichlorovos and carbofuran were 1, 5 and 5 ppb, respectively. It is a new application for SIA system to determine the trace concentration of organophosphate and carbamate pesticides based on the inhibition of acetylcholinesterase.
