The model is constrained by conservation of flow requirements, variable tariffs of service levels, terminal capacity, and length of trains. (2) the allocation of containers and flatcars, (3) The optimal service frequency, and (4) the fleet size of flatcars. The aims of developing the rail-truck intermodal transportation are to relieve the burden of the domestic transportation, and to solve congestion problems of freeway traffic. The intermodal rail-truck transportation model can compete with the truck service in terms of time and cost savings. It is hoped that the model developed by this thesis can (1) improve the service level in the domestic container transportation, (2) help the general public better understand the intermodal transportation, and (3) be successfully implemented. 張有恆 1998 學位論文 ; thesis 82 zh-TW |

In recent years, due to the prevalence of the container transportation, and the need for door to door services, the single mode transportation service cannot completely meet the actual demand. Therefore, the various transportation service modes such as sea, rail, truck, and air transportation, have come together. In the trend of the liberalization and intemationalization, the intermodal transportation will dominate the operation of the international trade. A complete analysis and research for the intermodal transportation has become an important issue.
This thesis aims to develop an operations planning model for intermodal rail-truck services. The model uses mathematical programming with it assumes that the transportation resource, capacity, demand and level of service are known, the minimum total operating cost as the objective function. The total operating cost includes the cost of satisfying the demand for the movements of a load from a shipper to a consignee, the cost for repositioning an empty trailer between intermodal terminals, the cost for repositioning a flatcar between intermodal terminals, the train operating cost, and the purchasing cost of flatcars. The model is constrained by conservation of flow requirements, variable tariffs of service levels, terminal capacity, and length of trains. The decision variables of the model include : (1) the optimal shipping quantity from shipper to consignee.
