The spinal fixation is often used to treat spinal injury, and its main function is to stabilize unstable lesion and to protect the spinal cord. Although the methods and types of spinal fixation are improved, the main function has never changed.Thirty canine's third to sixth cervical spines which have been surgical operation were used in this study to evaluate the technique of spinal fixation devices. Kinematics tests which measured in six modes of motion included flexion, extension, right-left lateral bending, and right-left axial rotation, use motion analysis system to record the three-dimensional motion of the specimen.The result is that the effect of plate is better than wiring in this study. There are no compensation in C3-C4 and C5-C6, when we use the fixation on C4-C5. The rang of motion(ROM) of wiring in flexion is similar to plate, and the others mode of motion are larger than plate.
