碩士 === 國立成功大學 === 建築(工程)學系 === 86 === In the past twenty years, lots of discussion about sound environment subject focused on noise problems. Experts and scholars proposed many methods aimed directly at these problems. However, people in the present world put more and more emphasis on living quality. Merely solving the noise problems passively is not enough. The more important thing is to actively explore the sound environment problems in our living surroundings. R.M. Schafer, a Canadian composer, has raised the ''soundscape" concept in recent years. He suggests putting the beautiful voice of the natural world into music. Under the influence of this concept, some experts also promote melting "soundscape'' into our daily life. The residents begin to actively realize what kind of sound environment they really want, but not passively get rid of noise. This thesis starts from understanding the residents'' favorite sounds, tries to keep the pleasant sounds in resident district and stimulates residents to control noise sources automatically. After ''Tainan residents'' favorite sounds" being known, the soundscape elements of urban area should be studied further to provide more information about sound environment elements to urban design. The meaning of this study is not only to cure the noise problems, but also to maintain and develop a comfortable living environment. This is the positive function that soundscape design brings in urban area. The structure of this thesis is as follows:Part I. To investigate the made-up elements of soundscape By using questionnaire survey, the sound preferences of people living in Tainan resident area can be examined. The main goal is to find out Tainan residents'' favorite sounds and the elements of these sounds. Part II. To analyze the sound power spectrum character of soundscape elementsThe recorded soundscape elements are measured in the laboratory, in order to get sound power spectrum character of soundscape elements. Besides, the result of the former measure is compared with human hearing feeling to discover their relationship. Part III. A draft for resident area soundscape designSum up the above two investigation and analysis and try to rough out a resident area soundscape.
