The new chalcones, gemichalcone A and B showed strong antiplatelet effects on AA-induced platelet aggregation, while known compounds, 2,6-dimethoxy-p-benzoquinone and cycloartopin showed potent antiplatelet effects on AA- and collagen-induced platelet aggregation. For a continual study of antiplelet agents of Chinese herbs, three new xanthones, 6,7-dihydroxy-1,3- imethoxyxanthone(6),4-hydroxy-1,2-dimethoxyxanthone(7), and gemixanthone A(9) and six known compounds, b-sitosterol(1), b- sitosterol-3-o-b-sitosterol(2), toxyloxanthone B(3), 1,5,6-trihydroxy-3-methoxyxanthone(4), 3,8-dihydroxy-1,2- dimethoxyxanthone(5), and 1,3,5,6-tetrahydroxyxanthone(8) were isolated and characterized from leaves and stems of Hypericum geminiflorum.
