Eighty-two subjects were collected by the purpose samplingg fro m a supportive club of spouse-lost women in Kaohsiung City. Structured questionnaires as reasearch tools include the general information su rvay, Grief Inventory, Interpersonal Support Evaluation (ISEL),Chinese H ealth Questionnaire (CHQ) and Beck Depression Inventory (BDI). After t he information collected, the factor analysis, t-test, Pearson'' s product mome nt correlation and step-wise multiple regression were made with the results as follows: 1.The mean of the total grief score of the subjects is 41. 26±10.57. Through the factor analysis, there are two factors of grief an d anger extracted. 2.The grief reaction of spose-lost women has significa nt correlation with their regular religiousworship, the average age of child ren, years of marriage, the use of cigarettes, alcohol and drugs before the loss, the extience of subtance use disorders or mental disorders bef ore the loss, the level of self-perceived social support and psychophys ical health status. 3.The level of Self-perceived social support (including appraisal, belonging, tangible and self-esteem) of spouse-lost women has significantly negtive correlation with their psychophysical health status. 4.In those spouse-lost women, 89% of t hem got 10 points or more in Chinese Health Questionnaire (CHQ) which i ndicates minor psychiatric illeness;41.5% of them got 10 points or more in Beck Depression Incentory (BDI) Which indicates depressive symptoms. 5.Expected variables of the ps ychophysical health status of spouse-lost women are the level of self-perc eined social support, grief reactions and economic ststus (relif needed or not). And their grief reactions could be predicted by variables such as t he use of cigarettes, alcohol and drugs before lost their husbands, the level of self-perceived social support and average age of children. Based on the resul t, more attention should be paid on the spouse-lost women''s psychophysical h ealth such as the use of the cigarettes, alcohol and drugs, minor psychiat ric illness and social support, thus leading to relieve their grief reacti ons, and help them adjust in the family and community life.
