First, a robust controller, which combines the merits of integral-proportional (IP) position control and adaptive control, is designed.Then, a novel sliding mode controller with an integral-operation switchingsurface and an adaptive sliding mode controller, in which a simple adaptivealgorithm is utilized to estimate the bound of uncertainties, are investigated.Moreover, a newly designed variable-structure controller, a variable-structure adaptive (VSA) controller and a variable-structure direct adaptive (VSDA)controller, are introduced. In both the VSA and VSDA, simple adaptive algorithmsare utilized to estimate the uncertainty bounds. Numerical simulation andexperimental results are presented to show that the proposed controllers aresuitable for the PM synchronous motor drive system with enhanced controlcharacteristics.
