碩士 === 中原大學 === 室內設計學系 === 86 === As the housing space in urban areas become more and more congested , The apartment house has come to be one of major types of living quarters in Taiwan。One noteworthy point about the apartment house is that right from the beginning , the feasibility and adaptibility of its space planning has been a great concern to many people。This study aims to bring forth through case analysis the substantial problems surfacing while space planning of apartment houses is being made。By doing so, I hope we can have a better understanding of people''s requirement concerning the space in an apartment house and the change of people''s conception about their living quarters。This study will also include an investigation of the changes of requirement , time implication , and the chief patterns of redesigning , which will be referred to as“second designing”in this paper。This research is done chiefly on the basis of the cases of the interior designs of apartment houses which have been presented by interior design magazines in this country since 1970。The study include an analysis of the characteristics of space planning produced by the “original design” and the “second design”a discussion of the variation of the space available between the original design and the design modified by interior designers。It is hoped that through this study we will be able to find the general and particular requirements that people demand of their living quarters in urban areas, thus to better understand the special features of the space planning of the urban housing, to avoid the blind point of unforeseen defectiveness and finally to save the extra expenses of modification by reasonable space planning right from the start。To sum up, the purposes ofthis study are： 1) To investigate into the“original design” and the “second design”with emphasis in their similarities and differences with regard to space planning and their historical developments。2) To interpret the causes of variation between the original design and the second design and their implication in relation to times elements。3) To fully grasp the practical requirements manifested by the“second design”as well as to have a clear picture of the changes of the types of living quarters, space requirement and the future trend of space planning of apartment houses。Based on differences caused by different periods, the changes in characteristics and space requirement, the changes of space planning of apartment houses in Taiwan is divided into three stages in this study： 1) fledging stage:1976-1983 2) transformation stage:1984-1992 3) pluralization stage: 1993-1997 This study contains six chapters, they are： 1, introductory explanations including the motives, purposes, scope, methods used in this study, also included is to take a retrospective look into historical literatures. 2-4, a detailed discussion of characteristics and requirement samples of interior space planning chiefly in reference to space formation patterns, desirable ratio between space and the size, and the use of space, etc. 5, a comprehensive and integrated analysis of the changes in space planning of apartment houses in Taiwan. 6, a presentation of the achievement of this study, recommendations, and the course of direction of the follow-up studies.
