Along with the quickly evolution of network, there is an explosive growth in Internet and Intranets. Recently, multimedia transmission in both networks is getting more and more important. Users no longer only satisfy datagram - oriented transmission such as file transfer, electronic mail now. The main issues in multimedia transmission are capacity and stream traffic. The feature of stream traffic in multimedia transmission is very different from the datagram transmission whose traffic is in burst and which is hard to guarantee the continuous and smooth packets from source to destination in traditional network. The reservation of network capacity must be adopted to achieve the quality of service (QoS). In this thesis, we consider a cluster - based architecture for multimedia and mobility support in which we propose a hierarchical routing algorithm (two levels.) We use a novel loop - free routing algorithm in cluster level. In this infrastructure, many real - time transmission schemes such as IGMP (Internet Group Management Protocol,) MOSPF (Multicast Extensions to Open Shortest Path First ) [16], RSVP (Resource reeservation) [15] will be suitable and can be adopted.
