This paper describes the design procedure by using linear quadratic regular(LQR) control theory to apply magnetic bearings and examine those bearing performances on a rigid-rotor testing rig. The study also includes:stability, damping, stiffness and steady-state response. Comparing the test results with analysis, it shows that the general LQR process can apply to determine the parameters for the AMB controller effectively.
