In this thesis, a new pole assignment theory which suggests that it can restrict the poles to damping ratio sector to improve system performance was proposed. The main purpose of this thesis is to apply the poles assignment theory to the field of output sliding control to make the closed loop poles within the limits of desired area, and then a magnetic tape drive system was given, to design a outputsliding controller and to prove the robustness of this theory. It was proved that the dynamic response characteristic of system was improved through the consideration of particular placement of closed loop poles.
