Corrosive water can cause the problems of aesthetics, health, and economics in water distribution system. This study describes (1) the literature review of corrosion index and its current application in different countries, (2) the evaluation of the corrosive nature of different waters of Taipei Water Department (TWD) and Taiwan Water Supply Corporation (TWSC), respectively, and (3) the recommendations of corrosion control technologies for water industries in Taiwan. As a result, it was reported that more than ten different corrosion indices have been mentioned in the literature, depending on the applicable water quality parameters, the target waters, and pipe material. However, among those indices, the Langelier Saturation lndex(LSI) was found more frequently employed by the researchers and drinking water regulation. The LSI values for the finished waters of TWD (e.g., plants Jyr-Tam 、 Gong-Goan and Chamg-Shing) and TWSC (e.g., plants Baan-Shin 、 Feng-Yuan and Feng-Shan) ranges from -2.1 to -3.6 and from -0.6 to -2.0, respectively. The negative LSI values, due to the low alkalinity, low pH, and low hardness, indicate the corrosive tendency of those finished waters. In view of quite lack of water pipe corrosion study in Taiwan, the following aspects are to be explored urgently by the researchers: (1) the laboratory and field methods of corrosion, monitoring and measurement in distribution and plumbing systems, (2) the on- site investigation of water pipe corrosion in distribution and plumbing systems, and (3) the possible impact of the water treatment process on corrosion control. 康世芳 1997 學位論文 ; thesis 66 zh-TW
