The cancer causing agent trihalomethane (THM), which is caused by effluent chlorination, is getting attention in recent years. This research examines the necessity of effluent chlorination from two case studies. The result shows that no chlorination is necessary in many months of a year. For other months, we might control the effluent coliform bacteria according to the effluent standard. Or, add less chlorine and control the effluent coliform bacteria to the extent that not raising a fixed percentage of that month''s average coliform bacteria. Other THM management strategies are also included. This research presents only partial chlorination assessment. Further research on the impacts of waterbone disease are recommended.
