In Taiwan, special time-and-space made ethnic group become the major one of social or political cleavages. Especially the controversy of ethnicidentity, "Chinese"(Chuong-Kuo-Lan) vs. "Taiwanese"(Tai-Wan-Lan), influencedthe political environment tremendously. When a voter faces new political situation, such psychological variable which is taken shape in long term become the base of thinking on which he depends. So the focus of this thesis is the relation between ethnic identity and political preferences. The contentincludes three subjects: the basic description of ethnic identity, socio- economic backgrounds and ethnic identity, ethnic identity and electional issues. The results of the study as follows: (1) We found that voter''s ethnic identity closely related to political context in Taiwan. (2) As same as former, only"Province background"(Sang-Chi Bey-Ching) and the levels of education are real factors which influence ethnic identity; then all socio- economic backgrounds isnot enough to explain the forming of ethnic identity. (3) The relation betweenethnic identity and electional issues is very significant in statistics, especially on issue positions; in the factors analysis of issue positions, ethnic identity is the most influential factor on issues which are identity orforeign affairs, on the other issues it isn''t such important. But the consensusof group members in issue positions isn''t on the issues which identity influenceto, there are another mutual-active variables worth to be noticed.
