in everycountry. To help SMEs is always one of the government's
main policies. In Taiwan, the government spend a lot of budgets
to assist SMEs. However, there is no reports or researches about
the performance of this project. In this article, the author ask
the CEOs of SMEs to appraise the project performance and their
satisfaction.
The samples consist of firms or cooperates assisted by
government institution. The author use Questionnaire and Depth
interview to get information. According to the research purpose
and method, the author make several conclusions and suggestion:
1. The assisted SMEs are most the company in small size, and
more than 80% are manufacturers. 2. More than half of the
assisted SMEs take the short-term assistance but no deeply
consulting. 3. Most of the samples consider this project
positive, but the effects are not as good as they expect.4. The
main causes of the gap between reality and expectation are
"Consultants do not understand the industry enough," and "The
period is not long enough." 5. Those SMEs that take "In-firm
assistance" obviously are more satisfied and give more
appreciation about assistance than those do not. 6. Capital size
and industry type have effects on performance appraisal and
satisfaction. 7. In information channel, most SMEs get
information from one-direction channels (DM, friends'
recommendation) not from two-direction channels (Network, Result
exhibition).
