Rectently ferroelectric liquid crystals(FLCs) have attracted
considerable attention and interest since the invention of
fast switching, bistable, and electro-optic devices. A single
component of Sc achiral host LC possessing wide range Sc phase
has been longing for a good candidate in FLC mixture.when we
dope chiral material in Sc phase , and we will get the Sc* phase
which is the need of FLC. Most researches were elaborated on
attaching lateral substitutions or branching the terminal
group. In order to obtain broad range Sc host materials, there
are few systematic ways to design and synthesize so far. The
heterocyclic LCs contain 2,6-disubstituted quinoline have been
synthesized to study their mesogenic properties ; however, they
noly have low narrow Sc phase(40℃ at most). Herein, we wish to
report the synthesize of the first heterocyclic LCs
containing 3,7-disubstituted quinoline naphthalene units with
broader Sc ranges.
