The EMU in Kaohsiung and Taipei rapid transitsystems are introduced first. Second, topics which must be decided in the early stage of planning are discussed, such as methods to form a train, evacuation of passengers on train, and methods of power collection. Then, subsystems of metro vehicles are included. They include carbody and fixture, brakes system, heating ventilation and air conditioning, door system, bogie and suspension system, coupler and draft gear and lighting system. At the end find, interfaces between metro vehicles and signal installations, power supply system, communication system, depot equipment, civil structure and fixed facilities and track system are specified.
