The studyadopts the concept of analysis of deformation of vertically loadedpiles developed by Randolph and Wroth(1978),in which the soil behindthe wall is simulated as an equivalent soil pile. The condition oftwo-dimensional plane strain as well as the factor of the excavationwidth are taken into account. The derived coefficient of subgradereaction is then incorporated into a computer program based on the theory derived. The input soil parameters are obtained directly fromlaboratory tests.
