flotation was conducted to investigate the freeze/thaw effect on
the sludge thickening process. The change of sludge character-
istics after the freeze/thaw treatment was studied. Experiments
were alsoconducted to study the effect of operation variables on
the liquid-solidsseparation efficiency. The sludge bound
water, settleability and specific resistance filtr-ation(SRF)
were markedly changed after the freeze/thaw treatment. Notably,
the floc size of digested sludge became larger. However, bulking
sludge did not. There is no marked difference on the sludge
flotation thickeningefficiency, yet some differences on the
sludge flotation behaviors betweenthe original and freeze/thaw
treated sludge were observed. The optimal air to solid
ratio(A/S) range of the sludge flotation sys-tem was examined
and operation variables of dissolved air flotation system were
discussed.
