Summary: | 碩士 === 國立臺灣大學 === 化學工程學研究所 === 85 === The effect of magnetic fields on scale formation has been studied extensively. Experimental work is often reported where no details of the govering physicochemical conditions are listed, so the claims made are easily refuted, creating controvery as to the efficacy of the process.
The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of magnetic field on the nucleation and growth rate of calcium carbonate in a fluidized bed crystallizer by the constant composition method.
The magnetic field increased the corrosion rate of iron and produced iron cation, and the iron cation decreased the nucleation and growth rate of calcium carbonate. The magnetic field also increased the nucleation and growth rate of calcium carbonate crystals which are suspended in the solution containing iron cations.
The aragonite is the major product generated by the primary mechanism.
