Denitrification is an important role in natural N- cycle, and can prevent environmental nitrate and nitrite pollution. One of its products, nitrous oxide, is also a greenhouse gas. How to balance both effects is the most important research now. In this experiment we used four different compounds, including diethyldithiocarbomate, dicyandiamide, nitrapyrin and sodium azide, and tested their influence on denitrification of denitrifying bacteria and soil denitrification. We found that diethyldithiocarbomate aod sodium azide have better denitrification inhibition. When added 10 mM diethyldithiocarbomate, it can inhibit denitrification of denitrifying bacteria to 98 %. And added 100 mM sodium azide, it can inhibit denitrification of denitrifying bacteria to 99 %. We found that in soil sample, denitrification can be inhibited to 99 % by adding 100 mM diethyldithiocarbomate. Adding 1000 mM sodium azide can inhibit soil denitrification to 95 %.In experiment results, we found: diethyldithiocarbomate and sodium azide are more potential inhibitors for denitrification, and can apply to field experiments in future.
