is the most essential public infrastructural constructions,in
that the highway bridges are the most important projects of
all.In order to properly maintain their safety and funtions,
it''s absolutely necessary to monitor the safety inspections
periodically and timely for bridges.However,the number of
bridges is huge,it''s best to establish an automatic expert
system to achieve optimal bridge management and provide
critical inspection information.This paper presents a
development of a preliminary bridge safety inspections system
and the related research issues. First of all,the theory
behind the expert system will be discussed; followed by the
necessary procedures for a preliminary safety inpections
structrual contruction;and finished by the integration of the
above two to become a computerized expert system as an
valuable tool for theoretical research development and
practical safety inpections.The bridge safety inpections
discussed here is only covering the primary assessment for
aseismic capacity,the traffic loading capacity,and the flood
resistency.The further more studies and experiences in
practices are sincerely expected.
