Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立清華大學 === 資訊科學研究所 === 85 === Real-time traffic, including constant bit rate (CBR) and real-time variable bit rate (rt-VBR) tfaffic, becomes very significant because of the rapid proliferation of multimedia applications in ATM networks. When designing a cell multiplexing method for handling real-time traffic, it should guarantee the QoS requirements, namely cell transfer delay (CTD), cell delay variation (CDV) and cell loss ratio (CLR). In this thesis, we designed an efficient cell multiplexing method, most delay beyond expectation (MDBE), for real-time traffic. Under MDBE, it can minimize the CDV induced by cell multiplexing . Besides, in the multi-hop environment, it can also reduce the cell loss caused by GCRA conformance tests and avoid the excess of CTD bound. Compared MDBE with some existing multiplexing methods via simulation, MDBE minimized the CDV criterion and also has good performances on average cell delay and conformance ratio criteria. Therefore, the proposed MDBE method is suitable for real-time traffic. Furthermore, based on MDBE, we designed a method called dynamic MDBE (DMDBE) to schedule both real-time and UBR traffic. Simulation results show that DMDBE not only performs well for real-time traffic but also reduces the average cell delay criterion for UBR traffic.
