Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立中山大學 === 資訊工程研究所 === 85 === With the popularity of the Internet and rapidly increasing number of its users, the current network structure can no longer quench the thirst of more bandwidth and higher transfer rate. People all over the world are trying to provide a better solution for wide-band network. And among all those solutions, the two-way data transfer over HFC CATV network is one of the most talked-about technology. Because it is thousand times faster than the current dial-up modem and it is constructed based on the existing CATV network, it is surely the most potential solution for the wide-band Internet access. In this article, we will go through the evolution of CATV technologies, the network structure, channel characteristics and its current status. Then we will inspect into the core technology of two-way data transfer over HFC CATV--cable modem, introducing its modulation scheme and transfer protocol. After that, we will also look at some of the trial programs of two-way CATV network and see where the bottlenecks are. In order to increase the usage of CATV channels so cable modems will not be constrained to operate in a fixed pair of channels, the author established an experimental two-way CATV network and provided multi-channel data transfer ability and channel management strategies. With this method, the CATV metwork can effectively increase its users and each user can have a more reliable and stable data transfer environment.
