The program is then applied to solve the optimum design problemsof the ride quality parameters of the full tractor and trailer. The ride qulaity parametersincluding the vertical acceleration of driver seat, suspension travel,road holding, dynamictire force and vertical acceleration of tractor and trailer body are defined. The system variables including the stiffness and damping values for suspensionsand tires are also identified. The typical optimum design problem is illustrated. The analysis and procedures of Taguchi method are then introduced. The applicationof Taguchi method to the optimum design problems is then demostrated. The objective of the optimum design problem is to find the optimum values of systemvariables and weighting values of individual ride quality parameter for the minimizationof the overall ride quality parameters.
