In the end of 1980 showed the evaluation was quite remarkable. Lately the Taipei Traffic Administration succeeds to expand the bus lanes project to the other major roads in Taipei to gives buses exclusive right of road. It estimates in north-south and east- west bus lanes to contruct the chessboard exclusive bus lane network, and to pove the whole traffic problem in Taipei and profit to the citizens. However, the factor that effects the bus operation in the city is not only the interference with the other kinds of cars, but also the traffic signals in the intersections. The bus signal priority procedure is implement in many cities in Europe for more than twenty years. The experience shows the bus signal priority procedure can shorten the travel time of bus. This research plans to experiment the bus signal priority procedure applying in the chessboard exclusive bus lane network in Taipei city. The main m hod uses the "Active priority methods" which contains green extensions, recalls and red shortage. Using these three control methods to adjust signals and programming in the C language to model the system after the traffic signal changed. By the result of simulation, the longer the green extension in the major direction, the less the travel time of bus and stops. Otherwise when the green time is extended to 30 seconds, it can reduce more than 80% of bus stops and more than 90% travel time of bus. Considering of the total benefits of the whole intersection, the benefit of the major lanes is better, so it can elevate the total benefit of the whole intersection.
