Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立中央大學 === 土木工程學系 === 85 === Hollow steel box section has been widely used in bridge pier construction due to its high material strength and significant capability in resisting flexural and torsional load. However, the thin-walled elements of the section are susceptible to local buckling failure under the action of major earthquake. The performance of a locally buckled section will deteriorate with the continuing application of external load. Therefore, the study of the characteristics of members in the post-buckling range is essential to a safe design.1. This study is focused on the behavior of hollow box sections with braces added internally. The collapsible braces were designed to fracture in tension and buckle under compression. It was found in the experimental investigation that the buckling strength of internally braced section was higher than the bare hollow section. Ductility and post-buckling performance of braced section was also significantly improved. Relationship between brace stiffness and member performance was also investigated in this study.
