Those international services would be provided by a group of WWW servers, proxy agents, and mirror sites. We need a new distributed approach to manage the servers in an organized way here. Recent approaches for the WWW server management focus on using a network management protocol, such as Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP), integrated as a portion of network management. It may be a proper management method, but it may not be the wisest choice for most Small-Office and Home-Office (SOHO) users, because hardware and software are expensive and there are different installation and maintenance. By the way, the SNMP schema is designed in a centralized monolithic platform with huge Management Information Bases (MIBs), and may not be suitable for a distributed WWW server. Our approach does not use traditional network management protocol. This is recognized as going against the current trend of network management. Our approach provides another management concept on WWW server management. In our approach, we conduct implementation on a Java enhanced web-based platform, which provides a capable and efficient schema with the advantages of having a low-cost, easy installation procedure, and being user-friendly interface for non-disciplined users. With its properties of mobility and security, we gain a distributed management system. We can get the whole system management information from each server, and get the related presentation applet quickly by remote methods. Furthermore, the intelligent cross-platform approach has improved the performance upon the distributed WWW server management. Suh-Yin Lee, Ronlon Tsai 李素瑛, 蔡榮隆 1997 學位論文 ; thesis 80 zh-TW |

碩士 === 國立交通大學 === 資訊工程學系 === 85 === As the WWW server grows at an exponential rate, a whole new
media and widespread servicetype has attracted commercial
applications, such as electronic newspapers and magazines, home
shopping, navigation guiding, and search engine services. Those
international services would be provided by a group of WWW
servers, proxy agents, and mirror sites. We need a new
distributed approach to manage the servers in an organized way
here. Recent approaches for the WWW server management focus
on using a network management protocol, such as Simple Network
Management Protocol (SNMP), integrated as a portion of network
management. It may be a proper management method, but it may not
be the wisest choice for most Small-Office and Home-Office
(SOHO) users, because hardware and software are expensive and
there are different installation and maintenance. By the way,
the SNMP schema is designed in a centralized monolithic platform
with huge Management Information Bases (MIBs), and may not be
suitable for a distributed WWW server. Our approach does not
use traditional network management protocol. This is recognized
as going against the current trend of network management. Our
approach provides another management concept on WWW server
management. In our approach, we conduct implementation on a

efficient schema with the advantages of having a low-cost, easy
installation procedure, and being user-friendly interface for
non-disciplined users. With its properties of mobility and
security, we gain a distributed management system. We can get
the whole system management information from each server, and
get the related presentation applet quickly by remote methods.
Furthermore, the intelligent cross-platform approach has
improved the performance upon the distributed WWW server
management.
