This study investigates the automation issues in Taiwan electronic connector industry and thereby makes conclustions and recommendations.Twenty-four CEOs are interviewed with questionnaires regarding their experiences and perspectives on the factory automation. It is found that single-machine automation and inventory management dominate the automation investment. This study proposes a strategic management and decision process for selecting appropriate automation type to meet specific needs of a firm and illustrates a specific case as an example.
