This essentially involves a real-time task assignment process among parts, machines,and operators through auction mechanism. In this thesis,auction theory is reviewed;a bidding information system has been designed;a real-time expert system is used for monitoringthe status on shop floor. Overall the heterarchical control approach reduces WIPs,increases machine utilization, and improves the system performance on the shop floor.
