of two sails in viscous flow by numerical methods. In this study
, we will solve the problem by using iteration method. Several programs
and the general-purpose flow analysis package - PHOENICS
has been combined and an iterative procedure has been build
to find the shape and the pressure distribution of the sail. The pa
rameters include the overlap between two sails (b/Cm) , the gap betwe
en two sails (h/Cm) , angle of attack (α) and the distance between
two sails (Sm) will be considered.
The result from numerical method indicate that:(1) To avoid
the unreasonable pressure distribution on the leading edge of sails, the
effect of viscousity should be considered. (2) When the overlap between
two sails increase, the lift force of main sail decrease. (3) The bad influence
of jip sail to main sail decreased when the gap between two sails increase
(4) The fluid on upper surface of jip sail separated at high
angle of attack. The separation of main sail is delayed due to the fluid
at high speed. (5)When the distance between two sails is small, an effect
of jet behind the overlap between two sails generated.
