for the treatmentof inflammatory,tumer,snake bites,diarrhea and
gastroenteritis in Taiwan and Southern Asian. In a
preliminary bioassy,n-hexane and CHCL3 fractions of Wedelia
biflora L.(Compositae) showed antiplatelet aggregation and anti-
inflammatory activity.Through silica gel column chromatography,
six compounds were isolated and therestructures were determined
by spectral analysis.(-)-Kaur-16-en-19-oic acid,friedelin and
3-epi-friedelinol were obtained from n-hexane fraction.15-a-
isobutyroyloxykaur-16-en-19-oic acid and a mixture of
stigmasterol and B-sitosterol were isolated from chloroform
fraction.Among them (-)-Kaur-16-en-19- oic acid,15-a-
isobutyroyloxykaur-16-en-19-oic acid,fredelin,3-epi-
friedelinolwere the first time isolate from Wedelia biflora L.
Bioactivity test indicated (-)-Kaur-16-en-19-oic acid possesed
very potentanti-inflammatory activity,but friedelin showed weak
anti-inflammatory effect.
