Due to lack of the openapplication service protocols, users can not easily access services on the remoteservers. To realize the VOD service in our campus, we have installed the VOD serverin the computer center. Although this VOD system has supported open integratedservice protocols, capabilities for the session and resource management are limited.Thus, we intend to expand such capabilities for the VOD system. The User-to-NetworkEntity for the DSM-CC is recommended by the ISO/OSI standard body for the sessionand resource management. In this thesis, we have studied the related specifications andconstructed an implementation architecture which adopts our prototyped SAAL/ATMas the underlying transport. Following the proposed architecture, we define the class for each componentrelated to the session and resource management. We have implemented the softwarefor the DSM-CC U-N entity based on the C++ language. We follow the guideline of the protocol implementation to define the software blocks for supportingfunctionalities of the session/transaction control and the message transfer. We discussthe input logic flow and output logic flow in terms of the system operation. Aftercompleting the software coding, we conduct some testing which is built upon theprototyped ATM network interface. From the test results, we have learned a lessonabout the development process.
