In the present study a modified SRT Task was proposed, which stimulus material was made very chaotic. It investigated 1)whether implicit learning still existed in the modified SRT Task, 2)whether implicit learning produced cost as well as benefit, 3)the age difference in the modified SRT Task. Experiment I indicated that the modified SRT Task could effectively exclude the influence of consciousness, and implicit learning still existed. Analysis of cost did not reach statistical significance due to insufficient power. In Experiment II Ss of different age groups showed similar benefit of implicit learning. There was a marginal positive correlation between cost and benefit of old Ss, which was not found in young Ss, indicating that the ability of inhibition declined with age. Results from this study also indicated that Ss learned serial structures rather than simple frequency information in the modified SRT Task. Ovid T-L Tzeng, Daisy L.
