The quartz surfaces were pretreated with the Piranha acid solution followed by the functionalization reactions to afford sample A, B, and C. All three samples showed strong fluorescent signals, however, the spectra did not give expected high resolution. Though the fluorescence spectrum of sample C showed a sharp envelope with fine structure, the low resolution was observed due to the Van der Waal*s interaction between the quartz surface and the anthraceneπ-electron plane. Solution fluorescent spectrum of 9,10-bis(triethoxysilyl)anthracene gave only a broad signal with on resolution, however, the solution spectra of anthracene derivatives 1, and 2 gave signals with fine structures.A series of anchoring ligands (5 - 10) were synthesized for the purpose of dual functions in both metal catalysts chelation and poly( silicic)acid supporting. Polymer 15 was obtained by treating the water-free poly(silicic)acids, P with anchoring ligand, [ ClSi( Me)2(CH2)11(4-py . HCl) ] in refluxing ethylacetate. 1H NMR spectroscopic study of polymer 15 was performed, and the results confirmed that the anchoring ligand is chemically bound to the poly(silicic)acid side-chain.
