Thus, We can understand the characteristic of the diffractive optical elements in a interconnection network system, then improve the shortages of VLSI and enhance the process speed of network. In this thesis, we first discuss the architecture of a 2-D bitonic sorting networks and introduce the optoelectronic sorting networks using multistage pipelined structure. After that, we explain the shift properties of a 2-D folded shuffle interconnetion. Then the basic theory of phase-only diffractive optical elements and the manufacture procedure of multilevel elements are presented. Finally, based on efficiency errors, we estimate the density limitation of diffractive optical elements on unit area. Here, we simulate diffractive optical elements using MATLAB software.
