In the eons of human development, there is a historical link between humans and water. However, as time flows, the relationship between cities and their rivers has changed. The use of the rivers has undergone massive change due to vast increases in human population and the advance of technology. The primary purpose of this thesis is to analyze and discuss the link between cities and rivers, and propose what could be considered as a more desirable design which will result in a more harmonious relationship as human development continues. Using the DaDaoCheng section of the Taipei Taishui River as an example, this thesis will examine and analyze the current situation and propose a design that will provide a solution for the periodical flooding while at the same time giving Taipei residents greater access to the river.
